Saltee’s Great black backed Gull

Great black backed Gull,Saltee Islands, County Wexford

OK, lets put a bit of wildlife colour into the day….
I took this image on a visit to the Saltee islands, county wexford. This wonderful Black backed gull was guarding her eggs very well indeed . What I cannot get across in the picture is the noise of the islands, with thousands of these birds both on the ground and in the air it is one of the best wildlife experiences you could dream of having on a spring day.



Great shot of the Gull on it’s nest, but what I like even more is the last shot of all those Gulls on the ground.
Can’t help but notice how they are all in their own little space with a certain amount of room around each bird (in the crowd).

Yes, I have some images of the full area these birds occupied, its an amazing size and would not come across in a single picture. They are so social-able, what’s even more amazing is watching them take off and land from this small space!

She is a beauty ! I love the colours in this Nigel . Those rocks and lichen and the little creeping plant with the white cup flowers .. ? some sort of saxifrage I wonder
