Hover fly by the Nore, Kilkenny

I am just doing a review of images that I have used for local exhibitions here in Kilkenny since 2008.
This image of a feeding Hover fly was displayed in a exhibition held in Callan, Co Kilkenny in 2009, It was printed onto photo board at A3 size.
Over the next week or so I will post some more of these images, as I would very much like to share them.
Wow, great shot – I’m envious.
These colour images you’re posting appear much larger and are easier to see, thanks. I’m keen to see some more flower & insect shots of yours, Nigel.

The detail is incredible. You can almost see the pollen grains on each stamen! Is a hover fly the same thing as a honeybee?

Hello Sharon Thank you π
No http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoverfly, I think this is a good site to help ID them and describe them. I do my best but wow you would go mad trying to always get it correct.
Thanks Sharon π
