Rhododendron laden hillsides
Summer
Comes ’round again,
Bringing life back to flow’rs.
Roses shall start to bloom once more,
And mighty White Oaks shall be green with leaves.
Rhododendron laden hillsides
And Lady Slippers nod:
Slowly fading
Summer.

Hello Elen π π
Yes they do here in Ireland – but – its mainly as they spread out of the grounds and big gardens connected to old estate houses.
They grow very well in mountain areas and in forests with rivers.
Great to see the flowers a this time of the year π π π

Beautiful plant Nigel, but there is a real effort being made in some areas now to get rid of them as an invasive species. Apparently they crowd out native plants, and don’t support any native wildlife either such as insects. They can start to completely dominate an area, and are very difficult to destroy. Hard to believe something so attractive can be so destructive.

Hello Aidy
Yes I can imagine so. even though they are amazing to see in the wild – this entire hillside from the valley below to the tops of the hills is covered with them. Its just breath taking to think they all came from one or two estate gardens. Yes a big problem !!!
