Slievenamon

The origin of the mountain’s name is explained in Irish mythology. According to the tale, Fionn mac Cumhaill was sought after by many young women, but he said that he could have only one partner. His partner would be whichever woman won a footrace to the top of the mountain. Fionn stood on the cairn atop the mountain and gave a signal to start the race. The winner was GrΓ‘inne

Beautiful picture and story! Irish are like the South Africans; they like a good story!

How beautiful is that Nigel .
I think seeing the moon drop or rise from behind a hill is rather special .
    So HUGE …
Fascinating .. as I look at the lower half of the image I feel I am looking from a higher point down onto another landscape with far reaching views . Rather like being at the top of our Hills here .

    • Hello Poppy ,

Thank you for dropping in again πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The image was taken from another hill so your spot on with your felling about the landscape below !

Its a wonderful part of the world, not like Kerry or a hugely visited part of Ireland but just a farming valley surrounded by hills and mountains. I so want to dig in more but it all takes time.

Yes I love the images you have of your local area, πŸ™‚ From what I can remember they are very alike in look and usage, a big dairy and beef farming area. ?

Thanks Nigel . I tend to think more sheep …although there is dairy too .
We have common land where many sheep and cattle seem roam together . I love it .
Are we going to hear any more about Grainne And Fionn …

  8. Nigel, what a beautiful image! The colors, mist, sunset and even the mountain herself are all sublimely feminine. What a great story. πŸ™‚
