Friday Poetry : The Colosseum, Brian Harris
Ten million stones recall
Ten thousand Souls whose anguished cries
Of victory arose from this arena.
For such contempt that man had shown
He trod the path of pain
surmounting human weakness yet again.
He led the way through just such vales
And with two thousand years now gone
We dwell upon such Grace.

Poignant poem, lovely shot!

Hello Norma 🙂
Thank you , this is an amazing place isn’t it . Even being there I still found it hard to take in the events that happened during a day spent here, when it opened it was for 100 days of games(?)!
I felt that Brian’s words summed up my own feelings , awe at the construction but a bit of Horror at the listing of a days events – held in a public place – but its worth noting that this is a part of our very own history !!
