By far the biggest industry in county Kilkenny is farming, The main land use is grassland, dairy farming and tillage farming especially around Kilkenny City and in the fertile central plain of the Nore Valley. Conifer forests are found on the upland areas.

Last year I set out to produce a collection of farming images and have worked with some of the counties Farmers on this. The images below are just some of the pictures so far, its a pleasure to be working out in the fields and watches the work being carried out.

  2. These are just excellent! The motion and detail of floating debris in #5 is making me sneeze just looking at it πŸ™‚

I see #1 tractor is Case, but are the rest John Deere? JD headquarters is about an hour from here in Moline, Illinois. The grandaddy of all farm equipment :-).

    Wonderful images Nigel. πŸ™‚

  3. I like the last photo the best. Probably has something to do with the well defined foreground, midground and background. And the distinctive colors in each.

  4. I do like these photos that show the process of farming. I’m not doing the farming but I live on a farm, someone else is doing the farm work. I always go and see what they are doing.

    • Hello Anne Rose ….

You must enjoy being very close to the land and the people who work on it, its a reminder of what life is truly about. So many people these day have not ever spent any time even watching people work on a farm. Personally I think every kid show be taken to see what happens, just so they know were their food will come from and how it is grown. If they met local farmers they may get their food locally in the future !

Thank you for your comment and very pleased you added to the post πŸ™‚

I used to work for a tractor company – International Harvester – they morphed into Case IH, so I still like those red tractors. But JD was always considered top end. Love tractor and farm machinery photos, these are excellent, and I can feel the dust from that rake.

    • Hello Andy

      Thank you for commenting πŸ™‚

The Case is belonging to a farmer I know very well and he’s very pleased with it, Everyone wants a JD but he owns the CASE in full and it’s not a big farm.

I think most of the lads I have met with the JD’s do contracting with them as well as their own land and that’s how they pay them off.
